Thorpe Ferry Cafe – Norwich

Bungalow Lane, Norwich, NR7 0SH

NOTE: This venue is a seasonal one and closed over the winter so check before visiting.

Our cosy riverside café is a beautiful and tranquil spot to stop for a drink and a bite to eat, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We serve a selection of hot and cold drinks, as well as baguettes, cakes and sausage/vegan rolls, plus an authentic Thai dish of the day made by owner Jaa Fisher. Many of the fragrant herbs and spices used in these dishes are grown on-site, and Jaa and her team are keen to use local suppliers wherever possible.

Why not tie in a trip to the café with a trip across the River Yare on the on-site ferry? A five-minute zip across the water offers easy access to the beauty of Whitlingham Broad and the quaint village of Trowse. Both the café and the ferry are dog-friendly (you may have seen our own ‘house dog’, Zelda the springador, in the photos and of course Jet the ferry dog), and you can even transport your bicycles across the river.

Opening times: Our opening hours are below but in the summer and school holidays, we will be open 7 days a week.

Parking: We have a large car park.  Be aware when you drive down Bungalow Lane there is a gated rail road to cross.

Accessibility: Although our venue is wheelchair-accessible, sadly our toilets are not.

As per all listings on Dog Friendly Norfolk, we accept well behaved dogs.

It was a pleasure to visit this beautiful gem by the water. The black dog Jet got us all fallen in love with him, as he gave a paw in exchange for a treat (which was a sausage roll from the cafe). The ferry ride was very relaxed and friendly. Highly recommended to everyone!

So annoyed I only discovered this today as it will only be open for two more weekends before shutting for winter until next Easter. What a gorgeous place! Drive down a track and over a railway line to get here and you will be rewarded with tables on decking looking out over a beautiful stretch of river where you may be lucky enough to see a kingfisher. Great choice of homemade produce including vegan or sausage rolls and a good choice of cakes. However, for me the best things were the Thai dishes of the day (one with meat, one without) which change daily and are made by Jaa, the friendly Thai owner. Both were absolutely delicious. Portions were large and what a bargain at £7.50. Most of the customers appeared to have been before and I can understand why as we aim to return next week to try another offering.

Well worth a visit to this perfectly located riverside café. The warm welcome from the staff was great, as was the coffee and our breakfast! Jaa makes the cakes herself and also offers Thai food. It's an idyllic spot and a great place to enjoy the sounds of birdsong and to watch the boats go by.
