The White Swan – Gressenhall

The Green, Dereham, NR20 4DU

The White Swan has stood on the village green since the 1600’s and is in the final stages of a complete refurbishment. Being closed since 2018, the community was disheartened to learn that their local pub would be closing.

In early 2021, the community came together to get The White Swan reopened, involving the whole village. They have worked together to purchase, rebuild and bring The White Swan back to life. Reopening in May 2022, we want to bring you the best. Our drinks poured with perfection, our menu made unique, seasonal and made with passion. Everything sourced locally. We’re proud to serve you local goodness.

A true village asset. A good range of Norfolk ales and an interesting food menu - would highly recommend the beef brisket nachos as a sharing starter and for vegetarians the curry and burger were both very tasty indeed. 🍺

What a fantastic place 🤩 An amazing restoration of a true village asset, look forward to spending many happy hours inside (and out!). Staff were great and there’s an excellent selection of proper local beer (hold me back…!)

A revamped pub, run by a consortium of local village residents. The pub is fresh, airy, well presented and very welcoming. I instantly liked it. Well worth a visit. A good selection of drinks are on hand and quickly served. I would have given it more stars, but the kitchen management clearly lacks management skills. Obviously on a steep learning curve at the moment. We ordered a meal for which we were assured they had everything they needed to provide it and in about 15 to 20 minutes. Three quarters of an hour later, we were advised that they couldn't make some of the dishes as they had run out of ingredients. Alternatives were ordered. When the meal arrived its was unevenly cooked and was a mountain of food on an inadequate plate. Quantity is not a substitute for quality and poor presentation. They have a lot to learn in the kitchen. When that is rectified 4 to 5 star ratings ought to be possible.

Very nicely done up pub with an extensive selection of beer in a lovely location. We had a vegetable platter to share and it was delicious (shame there wasn't a bit more crunch in the cauliflower but I'm being picky). Nice function room in the barn with a log burner. They could probably do with a bell on the bar as when everyone is in the kitchen they're missing out on business. All in all very nice. Will definitely go again....
