The Victoria is ideally situated just a few minutes’ walk from the golden sands of Holkham beach and at the gates of my family’s Palladian ancestral home, Holkham Hall. It is perfectly placed for discovering the county’s windswept coastline, seaside towns and villages.
It is arguable that our main attraction though is the food we serve in our restaurant. Our main themes are fresh, local and seasonal. The quality of our ingredients is paramount, whether it be shellfish, fish or samphire from the north Norfolk coast, beef from our farms on the Holkham Estate, lamb or pork from one of our farm tenants or soft summer fruit from a friend’s fruit farm along the coast and, in the winter only, wild game from our family shoot or venison from our herd of Fallow Deer.
You can eat in the gallery or our spacious orangery, which has views over the Holkham National Nature Reserve. All dining areas are dog-friendly.
Our dining times are:
As per all listings on Dog Friendly Norfolk, we accept well behaved dogs.

a week agoWe stopped in for a late Sunday lunch. Holkham Hall Info. told us it wasn’t possible to eat here if you weren’t staying there but that isn’t correct. We arrived at around 2:10 PM and were told they were full but we saw two couples leave and asked if their tables could be cleared and they accommodated us. Despite our ordering so late we weren’t rushed. The sea bass was lovely. The superfood salad could have been better balanced but was reasonable. Service very good. All fresh produce locally grown.

2 weeks agoWe had a booking to stay overnight but unfortunately my other half fell sick with Covid. I called to inform the hotel (with more than 24hrs notice) and asked that given the circumstances and the fact that we wanted to do the right thing and not put other hotel guests at risk, would they kindly refund the deposit or move our booking. Both Lauren and Sean took a firm stance and refused to accommodate us and simply said that they are happy for us to still attend the hotel and therefore will not refund the deposit or move our booking. Really nice to know that this hotel care more for a £170 deposit then they do the welfare of their customers and staff.

3 months agoJust had a meal here... didn't stay in a room. The staff are outstanding. Nothing too much trouble for them. Obviously the training here is great as it's reflected in the service The food was first class and good sized portions. Very clean and is dog friendly. We are planning staying here in the autumn.

2 weeks agoThis used to be a good pub to stop in for a drink and sit out in their lovely garden after a walk through holkam or along the coast. Sadly and rather bizarrely they no longer serve drinks, only if you're having food during lunch/dinner service. They are effectively closed between 2.30pm and dinner service.

2 months agoA lovely place in a lovely location which feels very special to stay at. The best of a county home hotel. The staff were great and very accommodating. The breakfast was very nice but we found our meal at dinner a little bland. We stayed in the Ancient House (which is a separate building on the other side of the road that leads to Holkham Hall). We were on the ground floor with a little garden area outside and it was light and charming. It's a little bit annoying to have to brave the elements to go across to the main building for food and drink but it's such a lovely place even being right on the main road wasn't a problem. However we were there off peak, so it may be different when the schools are out for summer. The landscape and walks along the beach are fabulous, you do have a five minute walk along the avenue opposite the hotel -which is basically a big long car park - to get to the beach, but there are wetlands with birds and cattle on either side, so if the car park is empty (first thing in the morning) you can enjoy the walk. It sits right at the entrance to Holkham Hall which is also a rather lovely place to visit
