The Black Boys Hotel is an imposing Grade II listed building in the centre of the historic market town of Aylsham. It is a popular pub, bar and restaurant and offers superb B&B accommodation in eight en suite guest bedrooms. The restaurant and bar areas of The Black Boys have been completely refurbished but stylised to preserve a 17th century feel with a modern ambience. To the rear of the pub we have a covered and heated outdoor area for drinking and dining – complete with its very own bar.
Our menus cater for both traditional and more imaginative tastes, using local produce wherever possible. On Sundays we offer a traditional roast alongside a wide selection of other dishes.
We are a dog-friendly pub and welcome well-behaved dogs on leads in the bar or garden, but they are not permitted in the restaurant. Dogs are also welcome in some of our guest bedrooms. Please mention when booking if you are bringing a dog so that an appropriate table or room may be allocated.
If dining in the bar with your dog we ask that owners be sensitive to other guests. If a dog needs food or water please take them outside where water bowls are provided.
Pub open every day from 8.30am. Breakfast served 8.30am-10.30am every day (booking essential). Main menu served Mon-Thurs 12.00pm-8.30pm, Fri & Sat 12.00pm-9.30pm, Sun 12.00pm-8.00pm.
Booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.

2 months agoVisited 19/12/22 13.00 We only had food and drink but it was very good, especially the steak and ale suet crust pudding which 2 of us had. That was the nicest suet pastry I have had it was light not stodgy and the meat filling was tender, tasty and moist my friend agreed, don’t change a thing. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals the portion size was good. We sat outside in the marquee which had heaters as we had a dog and the bar was busy. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, it was a nice Tuesday lunch . The prices weren’t cheap, £17 average but in the present climate you can’t expect to pay a fiver for a decent lunch. We didn’t have deserts as we were full.We will be returning and I would recommend it to anyone especially if you like steak and ale suet crust pudding .

2 months agoWent for our Christmas bash, just eating from the normal menu. I was not disappointed with the food, big portions and top quality. The waiting staff were polite and attentive, no mean feat considering the place was packed. I would definitely recommend eating there, priced at about mid range for pub food but definitely above standard for quality and quantity. I came away feeling very satisfied.

4 months agoQuite nice atmosphere but appalling food. If the portions are big, the quality is bad. One of the worst meal I ever had. And expensive too. I had skate but it was burnt on the top side, tasteless. The vegetables were not cooked. No flavour. No style in the presentation. Just a big blob of food. And what my husband and parents in law ordered was of the same level. Big portions but either burned or like a mass of gooey stuff. A good advise, avoid this place!

5 months agoArrived without booking and were accommodated immediately. Service and meals could not be faulted. A great selection of food on offer, very speedily brought to the table. Make sure you go in hungry as I doubt many people manage to finish their meal! Will absolutely return, well done all

5 months agoStopped for Sunday lunch after a ride on the Marriots way. Food was beautiful and freshly made, portions are massive. It was really busy and they fitted us in with no trouble. Great service and friendly staff.
