I've just returned from The Sandcliff Guest House travelling as a party of four, staying in two double rooms as two couples. We arrived shortly after 1430 which is the earliest check-in time and there was no parking available but we were able to park on the street near to the Guest House. We had a friendly welcome from Adrian and also Hugh shortly after. We were given rooms 6 and 7 and me and my partner stayed in room 7. The first thing that we noticed when we entered the room was a smell of drains. It was quite mild so we opened the window, put our bags down and then went out for the afternoon. When we returned the smell was still there but less noticeable to me but it seemed to be more noticeable to my partner. We did consider raising this with the Guest House at this stage but decided that it wasn't concerning enough to raise and request a room change. We then went out for the evening to watch a show on Cromer Pier. When we returned the odour was still there and stronger. We managed to go to sleep until around 0200 where I noticed I was smelling the drains smell in my sleep and it was to a degree where I couldn't sleep. I tried to locate the source which was coming from the en-suite bathroom, had the shower trap out, etc. In the end I had the window open full and the AC on which caused me to start sneezing as I was sleeping directly underneath it. The door to our room was slightly wobbly - the latch wasn't properly aligned so that started rattling due to the window being open so I had to push a hairbrush under the bottom of the door (it was a fairly wide gap) and a pen lid into the top part of the door to stop the rattling. It wasn't a restful sleep that night. If I was in a hotel with 24 hour reception, I would at this stage 100% have requested a change of room. I raised this issues with Adrian in the morning upon checkout and he advised that when it is windy some of the rooms do have the smell of the drains come back into the room and there is nothing they can do about this, although they have attempted solutions in the past. He advised if we stay with them again then we can be put in a different room other than #7. The other couple that travelled with us stayed in room #6 and they had no smell of drains in their room at all, so it seems it is just some of the rooms. The rooms were clean and well presented and also quiet, with the exception of our door rattling which I mentioned previously whilst the window was open. The service at breakfast was 10/10. Extremely efficient and friendly. The breakfast itself was also very good. We had the vegan breakfasts with egg - everything tasty, cooked well and a well cooked poached egg too! It is unfortunate that I've had to award only 2 stars but considering the large majority of the time spent in the hotel was spent sleeping and that was extremely disturbed any more would be an inaccurate representation of our stay.

I stayed for four nights, and had a great stay. The guest house is well-run, and the staff seem to care. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was hot with good pressure. The window was openable, and the heating could be switched off if it got too hot. The breakfast was excellent - lots of healthy options available, and served from 7:30 which was great as I was hiking and wanted to get going reasonably early.

A great place to stay when in Cromer. Minutes from everything you need. Our room was very clean, quiet, comfortable and homely. Beautiful thick, soft cotton towels. Great shower ! The poached eggs and salmon on sour dough toast were perfect. I had it three times. The fruit salad, very fresh and generous. Brilliant marmalade. Loved having Vegemite there. Lovely service. A smile and a whistle to start your day. We will return. From Oz

I had no problem with the scaffolding except that my window would not open much. Positives were location, cleaning and beautiful breakfasts - but choose tea rather than coffee. But I felt for what I paid for a small single room with a shared shower room, some things were a little ungenerous. No table, tiny hanging area with only four hangers,, not even the full range of free view channels on the tv, no complementary biscuits- very unusual these days - and, equally unusual, no folder of documents with house and tourist information. Not a bad experience but I felt it fell a little between a Guest House and Hotel.

Returned today from a 5 night stay at this lovely guest house which was to celebrate my husband's birthday and our wedding anniversary ❤️!! We stayed in room 6 which was a good size with plenty of room to move around .The bed was very comfy with decent pillows .The room was spotless and made over incredibly well each day . The shower was easy to use , hot and powerful with a good sized cubicle. This room probably wouldn't be very good for the elderly as there was quite a big step up in to the bathroom, but wasn't a problem for us !! We did think that the room would have benefited from a little more space to store clothes and a hook on back of door for coats . Also something to put our used towels on to dry .The breakfast was amazing with a fabulous choice of good quality food, cooked to perfection and served by friendly and professional staff !! The sea is just across the road which was an added bonus and town is close by !! We would definitely recommend Sandcliffe and would stay again !! Thankyou ... From Debbie and Kevin from Derbyshire .
